Zemanta is a writing assistant that recommends content while you write. It is a great time-saver because it finds additional content elsewhere – content you would otherwise have to search out. With just a drag and drop (for photos) or a click (for links, tags and related articles) you can add truly related content to your posts that otherwise, you would have to search for online. As you type, Zemanta updates its recommendations for you (or you can set it to update on command only).
Setting up Zemanta Preferences and Sources
When you set up your Zemanta account, on the “Me” tab enter your name, Email choice, change your password and username, and, most importantly, add all your blogs. When you add your blogs, Zemanta indexes them and your articles will be added to the “Related Articles” suggestions for other bloggers, increasing YOUR inbound links!
On the Sources tab, you can add other sites you would like to see Zemanta search for relevant suggestions under “Blogs and Other Content”. If you use Flckr, add your screen name so your images will be suggested. Enter your Amazon affiliate ID if applicable.
On the Look tab, choose how you want images you drag and drop from the Media Gallery to be aligned. Choose your signature image. Under “HTML Code Style” choose to have links open in a new window, use unstyled xHTML or make links “no follow” if desired.
Zemanta shows aGallery of completely free images with no copyright restrictions. To use, simply drag the image and drop it where you want it! When you set up your account, you can decide if you want the images right or left-aligned in preferences. We chose right-aligned, but you can always change it for each individual image.
Related articles are displayed right under the Media Gallery. Some will be marked “Promoted” which means they publisher has paid for a higher ranking in the list. Hover over the “+” to see an excerpt of the article. Click the blue arrow to view the entire article. To insert the link, just click on it.
Zemanta determines the important people and terms important in your articles and shows you recommendations on links to include. Click on “APPLY-ALL” to include all links, or click on individual links to insert hyperlinks in existing text. In some cases, there are multiple options for links, just click on the down arrow to choose the one you want. No more scouring the web for related links!
Tags provide an additional way for your users to search for content that interests them and may improve your search engine rankings. Zemanta suggests tags relevant to your article and allows you to add them with just a click. Add all at once, or choose just the ones you want.
If you find you are not getting the results you were hoping for, try typing a key word into the Zemanta “REFINE” box. Recommendations will now include that word along with the full text of the article.
