Thumbs up - Why Your Brand Still Needs a Facebook Page

Why Your Brand Still Needs a Facebook Page – Seriously

There’s been a lot of debate surrounding the value of Facebook business pages lately. Many of the talking heads would have you believe that Facebook is a waste of time. Why?  Reach is down, and “everyone is leaving”.  You’ll get no arguments here about decreasing reach, but this first-hand account might be enough to convince you that, for many businesses, there is still value in a Facebook page.

Why Your Brand Still Needs Facebook – Lyn’s Story

Everyone loves a story, right? So let me tell you something that happened just last week to a friend of mine – it illustrates why Facebook is still a good fit for many businesses.

My friend Lyn, a nurse at the local NICU,  has a love of  needles – not work related, she’s a knitter. A couple of years ago, Lyn offered to make for me some of the many props I was buying for my small photography business, just to be nice. Here she was making all these great props for me, saving me lots of money, and often she wouldn’t even …

How to run a contest on Google+

How to Run a Contest on Google+

Wondering how you can run a contest on Google Plus? You can’t! It’s true – check out Google’s policies on contests.

Not only is there no means to run a contest and record entries on the Google Plus platform, it is against the rules to use any functionality of Google+ as a means of entry. In other words, asking people to “+1″ in order to enter to win is against the rules.

If Google+ Contests Were Not Against the Rules

Even if contests were permitted on Google+, there would be the matter of keeping track of entries. Unlike Facebook, with its tabs or applications, all you have on Google+ are your page and your +1s. There are paid services that claim to track who +1s each page on your website. However, according to Google+, this also violates the rules pertaining to +1 buttons.

“Publishers may not attempt to discover the identity of a Google+ button user unless the user consents to share his or her identity with the Publisher via a Google-approved authorization procedure. This prohibition …

More Efficient Marketing in Twenty Days

Sometimes, when someone downloads one of our marketing eBooks, we ask, “What’s your biggest marketing challenge?” Care to guess the most common response?

“Finding the time”! Yes, online marketing, as important as it is, often falls to the bottom of the to-do list, as everything else seems to scream for attention more loudly!

That’s why, when HubSpot asked for contributors to a new eBook about marketing hacks, we jumped at the chance.

Our Hack – Pinterest “Vaults”

It’s not actually a feature of Pinterest – just a way Pinterest junkie, Tina, came up with to get Pinterest boards ready for prime time before it was actually time to release them to the public. Here’s how it works:

Create a  secret Pinterest board. Fill it up with fabulous pins, completely optimized descriptions and calls-to-action. When it’s ready for prime time, simply toggle the “secret” option off to make it public!

Personally, I hate to release a Pinterest board with only one or two pins on it. It looks unfinished. But I don’t always have time to fill up a board …

How Can #Twitter Make Money For My Business?

Twitternomics – How Can Twitter Make Money for my Business?

Can Twitter really make money for your business? This one is similar to the biggest question my late father had about my work, “People PAY you to Tweet?” Haha. Yes, Dad, they do – but it’s not that simple. I was happy to have the chance to show him why businesses do pay for help with Twitter – effectively using Twitter really CAN make money for your business!

The strategies and techniques for building a business with Twitter are similar to general suggestions on how to monetize social media, but the potential benefits, mindset and mechanics of each platform differ somewhat. So, how do Tweets, Retweets, Mentions and Follows turn in to increased business profits?

Twitter Generates Targeted Website Traffic

Sharing your blog post links with relevant and intriguing updates brings to your site people who want to know about your products, services, or information.

Pro Tip: Have your followers help spread the word for more visitors. Using hashtags increases the chances of a Retweet by …

How Do I Monetize Social Media? Six Ways Social Media Increases Sales

“How do I monetize social media?” That was one of the questions submitted when we asked our Facebook fans about commonly-asked online marketing questions. Engagement and growing fan counts are all very nice, but if it doesn’t lead to a better bottom line, is it worth the effort? Perhaps you’ve wondered yourself – is there a way to make money from social media?

How Does Utilizing Social Media Lead to Increased Business Profits?

It doesn’t automatically, but you knew that. In fact, if your business is not ready for social media, your efforts could actually backfire.  With an investment in time and a commitment to ongoing quality, however, you can expect to see any or all of these six profit-boosting benefits. Note that with one exception, these benefits don’t form a straight line to increased sales. But the path from awareness to new customer is rarely a straight line, anyway.

1. Social Media Increases Exposure and Builds Brands

It’s not rocket science. Being on …

Giving leads to happiness in business, too. Here's how... #InboundMarketing

Giving Leads to Happiness in Business, Too!

When searching for images portraying “business giving” I was amazed by what I saw. No actual giving – only selling! This so well illustrates the challenge businesses face and explains the resistance many have to “give to get marketing”.

It seems completely counter-intuitive to give away what you have worked so hard to acquire – yet it is what people have come to expect. And if you don’t give it to them, someone else will. So, instead of a dry business image with an exchange of money for goods, I settled on a hunky guy holding a gift. Isn’t that more appealing, anyway? Let’s see how we call all be that hunky guy who is making somebody’s day with his thoughtfulness (good looks 100% optional!).

“Give to Get,” “Youtility,” “Inbound Marketing,” “Content Marketing” – all different words to describe the same thing – marketing that is so great that people would pay for it. So, why not make them pay for it? Isn’t it counter productive to give away your hard-earned knowledge when what you …

HubSpot - What is it?

What is HubSpot?

There are several “all-in-one” marketing solutions on the market, each with its own set of features and loyal following. We use HubSpot to fuel our inbound marketing and it has worked great for us. We’re also a VAR, partner and I’m certified in Inbound Marketing and the software itself, so clearly, I’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid. Still, Here’s an overview of some of HubSpot’s key features. Want to see them in action? I was a guest on a “HubSpot Features” Google Hangout Friday, September 27th. Take a look!

What is HubSpot?

HubSpot is all-in-one marketing software that helps companies convert website visitors into leads and nurture those leads into prospects. The theory behind it is simple, and is common to all inbound marketing – give people what they want and need and they are more likely to become your loyal customers.

But What Does it DO?

It’s not a “set it and forget it” program. No inbound marketing can be. What it is is a collection of tools that integrate very closely for a fantastic method …

Is Pinterest delivering the sales and leads you expected? #Pinterest

Is Pinterest Really Generating Leads and Sales for You?

Pinterest is a huge traffic driver. No one disputes that. It’s fun, it’s visual and it can really help build brand recognition. It’s also a great driver of ecommerce traffic, with 70% of users reporting that they go to Pinterest looking for items to buy. But, is Pinterest bringing in sales for you? Is it possible to know?

Easy Ways to Tell if Pinterest is Generating Leads and Sales for Your Business

We’re all for keeping things simple.  We use HubSpot for most of our online marketing, and the software makes it so simple to see where our leads and new customers come from.

Tracking Leads from Pinterest

If you’re not using HubSpot or other tracking system, you can still use Google Analytics (assuming you have it set up on your website) to track leads from Pinterest (or anywhere else). Here’s how:

Set up all contact forms and download submission forms to redirect to  “Thank You” pages after submission (this is good practice, anyway). Each form …

Why does my pharmacy need a blog? I'm a busy pharmacist!

Why Do I Have to Blog for my Pharmacy?

“I just want to start utilizing social media to promote my business. Why are you telling me I need to blog, too?” — Sincerely, Your Neighborhood Pharmacist.

We understand. Not everyone is a writer, and blogging does take a considerable amount of time and/or money, one or both of which might be in short supply! Then there’s the matter of what you should write about (do people really want to read about the latest prescription drugs? vaccinations? studies?). No wonder people want to skip right to the seemingly simple process of posting on social media and watching the customers beat down the doors! But trust me, it’s worth it.

Blogging Brings More Visitors to your Website

Companies with active blogs have 55% more website visitors than those not blogging (HubSpot).  Why would that be? Search engines love good, fresh content. Use the right keywords and target the right buyers, and you will see your search engine rankings improve over time without having to shell out thousands every month for Adwords or other PPC. Your outstanding content may …

Social Media Not Giving You the Return on Investment You Expected?

So, it’s a couple of months in with your new online marketing agency, and you’re not so sure about this social media “thing.” You’re looking at a report with fancy graphs and numbers, and terms that mean absolutely nothing to you. What are you paying for, anyway? Is it even POSSIBLE to determine the ROI of social media?

It sure is. Without going in to what the numbers mean and how to improve them, let’s look at some questions you might ask regarding possible reasons  you’re not seeing the return you expected from social media.

Is it Too Soon?

Has it been less than six months since you started? Give it time. As long as you are seeing some action, keep it up. Don’t become a person who says, “I tried it and it didn’t work!” without giving it a chance.

Are You Expecting Too Much?

I know, it sounds like a cop-out, but, perhaps because social media has been touted by some “experts” as a sort of …
